The Alley Theatre presents the Young Performers Spring Studios Saturdays, March 27– May 15, 2010.
Morning Classes:
10:00AM – 11:30AM
TEATRO ALLEY (ages 7-9) Open up a magic door to language, learning, and adventure as kids explore and perform their favorite storybooks. This studio class will be taught in English and Spanish and incorporate movement, improvisation, and scripted storytelling. Characters from kids’ most beloved books come to life! Develop English and Spanish language skills through the art of theatre. I
MPROVISED PUPPETRY (ages 10-12) GREG RUHE Larger than life! Students in this studio will work with multiple styles of puppets and on developing their own stories and characters. Participants will build confidence, poise, and panache through puppetry, mask, improvisation, and ensemble work.
ACTING LAB – ROMANCE (ages 13-17) JOE ANGEL BABB Love is in the air! Portraying characters that have crushes, feelings, or intense emotions for another requires trust and respect. Students in this lab will expand their knowledge of theatre be studying scenes and monologues from classic and contemporary plays. This eight-week lab culminates with staged readings and final projects.
Afternoon Classes:
12:00PM – 1:30PM
PLAYMAKING (ages 7-9) Students will explore story theatre techniques to adapt and dramatize favorite poems, folk tales, and contemporary stories. The lessons include improvisation, expressive movement, and exercises that encourage teamwork, develop concentration skills, and improve self-esteem. This eight-week lab culminates with staged readings and final projects.
COMEDY IMPROV (ages 10-12) Come prepared to laugh! Students will find the freedom and guidelines to act and react spontaneously while creating original characters and scenes. Students will prepare a final presentation of performance games, original characters, and improvised scenes.
ACTING LAB - TRAGEDY (ages 13-17) Students in this lab will learn how to develop intense emotional scenes and flawed human characters. This demanding course tackles the abuse of power and elements of tragedy. It requires serious commitment to study and practice scenes and monologues. This eight-week lab culminates with staged readings and final projects.
