Rudolph Projects ArtScan Gallery is pleased to present Evidence, a group exhibition featuring the work of  Miguel Avila - Kenneth James Beasley - John Hartley - Mary Howe Hawkins - Darra Keeton - Whitney Riley - Gabriela Trzebinski- Lillian Warren - Jeffrey Wheeler - William Winkler. Opening  Saturday November 21, 2009, 5:30 to 8:00 pm.

The theory of evidence is a field wrought with dispute. Many of these disputes stem from the limits of human knowing, a field known as epistemology. Possibly the most salient question of evidence is how, if, and what one can know. This is the question of evidence's limits. Some believe all evidence to be circumstantial, denying the possibility of direct evidence. To help deal with this problem, many fields have found it useful to talk about levels of evidence and certainty, particularly in the field of art.

At a superficial level, art is about the direct subjective reaction of the viewer to the artwork. Great works of art elicit powerful emotional responses and entangle the viewer in their peculiar field of altered reality. The strangeness of this entanglement may qualify as a spooky action at a distance. It is tempting to extrapolate current scientific theory further and speculate, that great art, somehow connects physical reality with surreality, providing a portal to the other postulated dimensions.

This is NOT an epistemological debate, but simply an art show. There will certainly be evidence of art!

On View Through Saturday January 2, 2010.
