Anya Tish Gallery is proud to announce Light Switch, a group exhibition.

This exhibition by regional and international artists whose works in installation, light sculpture, video and painting function through a sense of duality - a perceptual switch between the static and the moving, the anticipated and the unexpected. The Artists will be present at the Opening Reception Friday, December 4, 6:00 – 9:00 PM.

Houston artist Garland Fielder’s painting challenges the conventions of a one dimensional perspective through sleek geometric design whilst Romanian- born Adela Andea's light installation Biopunk Mnemonics creates a multifaceted matrix of florescent light and electronic hardware conceptualizing themes of the future. New age icons by London-based artist Oleg Ikona demand an interactive dialogue between the viewer through the toy-like flashing lights and sound-activated buttons, along with Houston artist Neva Mikulicz’s video/drawing which engages a voyeuristic sensibility by transforming the viewer into a silent passenger of a truckers’ journey through Houston.

Germany-based artist Maxim Wakultschik’s multi-personality paintings play with the mythological idea of the two sided personality, deconstructing multiple faces onto alternating panels which extend in and out of a three dimensional space transforming the traditional painting into an innovative object. A cairn light sculpture by Kevin Curry created from found signage on one hand embodies a delicate aesthetic through the glowing color light, but on the other hand incorporates an unexpected sense of physicality through the industrial nature of the material.

Light Switch is a collection of works that communicate through a series of revelations from one reality to another, ebbing and flowing like a current of electricity creating a complex labyrinth of visual and conceptual perspectives that both awaken and engage the viewer.
