Bayou Bend presents Yuletide: Holiday Time at Bayou Bend, November 19, 2009 – January 3, 2010.

Bayou Bend is renowned for its annual Yuletide tradition which features festive lights, decorations, and Candlelight tours outside, and special room settings inside that bring historic American celebrations to life. This year, we are reviving our favorite holiday-themed rooms. From a celebration of the first national day of Thanksgiving in 1789, to a Twelfth-Night anniversary dinner with George and Marsha Washington, to a 1950s Houston Christmas, Holiday Time at Bayou Bend will be an especially festive stroll through two hundred and fifty years of history to see how our ancestors celebrated with family and friends during the holidays.

Candlelight Tours:
November 27; December 3, 4, 10, 11, 17 & 18, 2009
5:00 – 7:00 p.m. (last admission)

Bayou Bend is open late on these special nights so that guests may enjoy the festive lights and decorations on display during Yuletide: Holiday Time at Bayou Bend. Tour the holiday-themed Yuletide exhibition on the first floor of the house. Outside, relax with a cup of hot cider and enjoy some music and holiday cheer.

Admission is $7.50 for adults, and $5 for students 18+ & seniors age 65 + with ID. Children 17 & under are free. No reservations are required. For more information, call 713-639-7758.

(Note: Thursday evenings include a self-guided tour of the exhibit; on Friday evenings, docents share information about the exhibit with the guests.)

Join Bayou Bend on Sundays in December for Victorian ornament-making activities designed for families with young children. Workshops take place in the gardens amidst Bayou Bend’s outdoor 2009 Yuletide décor.

Yuletide Family Day

An amazing day of fun and entertainment is what awaits our visitors to Bayou Bend Family Days. Activities, demonstrations, and performances abound throughout the home and gardens. Tours of the 1st floor of the house are hosted by volunteers of the Houston Junior Woman’s Club, while giveaways and promotions are offered through our media sponsor, KUHF 88.7 FM and the MFAH.

Holiday Festival
Join us at Bayou Bend to celebrate the joyous spirit of the season. Outside, enjoy the fabulous sounds of local talent of all ages as they ring in the season with your favorite songs and stories from Christmas, Hannukah, and more. Try your hand at some holiday crafts and create your own special heirloom decorations for the season. Guests may tour the first floor of the house and view this year’s Yuletide exhibition.
