A returning favorite. The Grand 1894 Opera House presents the Jubilee Banjo Band, Friday-Sunday, June 18-20, 2010.

The Jubilee Banjo Band returns for their 23rd year to appear at The Grand. There’s nothing like the sound of a banjo to set your toes tappin’! The Jubilee Banjo Band puts on a great show with something for every member of the family! The Jubilee Banjo Band (JBB) is a high-energy show band whose aim in every performance is to "put a smile on your face, a tap in your toe, and a song in your heart."

The 20-member group includes 15 tenor banjos (4-string), piano, bass, drums, as well as vocalist and dancers. The JBB programs always feature a wide variety of musical styles and just plain family fun. Audiences everywhere are entertained and delighted by many medleys and enjoyable arrangements.

The Jubilee Banjo Band performs frequently for all types of functions and organizations. Each year the JBB plays 4 shows at the Grand 1894 Opera House in Galveston, Texas during the third weekend in June. This annual concert consists of two acts. The first act features a wide variety of music while Act II is based on a theme from which the show takes its name. Until 2008, the JBB performed every Memorial Day weekend at the "Guthrie Jazz Banjo Festival" in Guthrie, Oklahoma. In 1996 the JBB played to an audience of 8000 in Rapid City, South Dakota for the International Air Stream Rally, and in 1997 played 3 shows in Branson, Missouri at the Lawrence Welk Theater. All shows are complete with costumes, choreography, singing, dancing, comedy, and many crowd-pleasing surprises. The JBB seeks to promote and preserve the music of America's only native stringed instrument, the banjo, and has a lot of fun in the process-both for themselves and their audiences.
