Family Fun on the Gulf Coast! Join The Grand 1894 Opera House for the 15th Annual Grand Kids Festival,  Saturday, April 10, 2010, 10am-5pm. Where can you color on the sidewalk, pet exotic animals, learn about the performing arts and create all kinds of crafts and dance and sing along to music all day? Why, at The Grand Kids Festival, of course! Join us for our 15th anniversary of this one day festival featuring over 50 activity booths, 3 performance stages, storytelling and demonstration arenas and more!

Presented as a celebration of families and folk arts, The Grand Kids Festival will feature 3 entertainment stages, a storytelling tent, an Artisans tent and a host of activity booths guaranteed to spark the imagination and creativity in kids of all ages. Created as an extension to The Grand’s children’s programming and designed to raise an appreciation and awareness of the importance of fine arts for children, the festival will feature three outdoor performance stages, and over 50 unique booths offering hands on activities for children and children-oriented arts and crafts. The Grand Kids Festival has become a favorite springtime activity for families throughout the Houston/Galveston area and beyond.

A highlight of the festival each year is the production staged by Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) from Missoula, Montana. Each year MCT holds auditions the Monday prior to the festival and casts 50-60 area youth in the production. This year MCT will be presenting a musical adaptation of Rumpelstiltskin. Auditions will take place on Monday April 5, 2010 at The Grand at 4pm. The cast rehearses all week and then presents this wonderful musical adaptation of a classic tale on stage at The Grand during the festival. Festival performance times are Saturday at 11:00 am and 1:30 pm.

Festival admission is $3 for adults; $2 for children; free for children 4 years and younger. Half-price advance festival tickets (family four-pack for only $5.00!) are available at The Grand’s box office.
