The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston presents their January Artful Thursday: Artist Talk - Do Ho Suh. Thursday, January 14, 2010, at 6:30 p.m. at the Caroline Wiess Law Building. Admission is free and open to the public. A reception follows the program.

Korean born artist Do Ho Suh creates detailed, intricate sculptures that defy our sense of scale and location. For example, a recent work, Fallen Star 1/5 (2008-09) in the exhibition Your Bright Future, dramatically depicts a traditional Korean scholar´s house crash landing into a replica of the building that housed Suh´s first American apartment. Fallen Star 1/5 is filled with hyper realistic objects handmade by Suh and his assistants to create the effect of a home that is actually lived in.

Featured on the acclaimed PBS series, Art: 21, Suh divides his time between Seoul and New York City. In 2001, he represented Korea in the Venice Biennale. The following year, a retrospective of his work was held jointly at the Seattle Art Museum and the Seattle Asian Art Museum, while major exhibitions of his work have been mounted at the Whitney Museum of American Art, Serpentine Gallery in London, and the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art in Kansas City.

At the January Artful Thursday, Suh talks about how his work continues to probe our place as individuals within today´s increasingly transnational, global society.
