The Rothko Chapel is delighted to bring a distinguished roster of outstanding intellectuals, poets, musicians, and journalists to speak and perform during its 2009-2010 season of public programs. All programs are free and open to the public. The Rothko Chapel presents Song Salon: Tonal Transcendence – Composers and Human Rights, Sonja Bruzauskas, Mezzo Soprano. Presented by Divas World Productions Friday, January 29 at 7 p.m.

"Tonal Transcendence" is a program that reflects one of the primary goals of the Rothko Chapel-the advancement of human rights. This concert will feature music by composers responding to political oppression-whether personally experienced or as a testimony to the suffering of others. Political systems often attempt to use art as a means of control, and some of the most remarkable music of the 20th century was composed out of a desire to transcend oppression.

Ms. Sonja Bruzauskas, (pictured) Mezzo Soprano, will be featured at this Song Salon. Praised for her 'lustrous' voice with 'gorgeous timbre' and 'youthful vigor', Ms. Bruzauskas 'entrances audiences' throughout the United States. She holds a diploma in Voice, Dance and Acting from the 'Folkwang Hochschule' in Essen, Germany, and a Master of Music degree in Opera from 'Manhattan School of Music' where she studied with Marlena Malas. Ms. Bruzauskas serves as Artistic Director and Vice President for the non-profit organization Divas World Productions.
