    Ars Lyrica presents Les Plaisirs de Versailles, a chamber opera by Marc-Antoine Charpentier, Sunday, February 28, 2010 at 4pm, at Rienzi Center for European Decorative Arts, 406 Kirby Drive, Houston, TX 77019-1412. NOTE:  Due to popular demand, Ars Lyrica will give additional performance of "Les Plaisirs de Versailles" on Sunday, February at 6pm at Rienzi.
     

    Written in 1682 for performance in the private apartments of Louis XIV at Versailles, this delightful short opera celebrates the various pleasures enjoyed at the French Baroque court via characters who represent Music, Conversation, Gambling, Feasting and Pleasure. The Ars Lyrica performance features a full cast of soloists plus a small chorus and instrumental ensemble, with costumes and set pieces.

    Directed by Tara Faircloth. Presented in collaboration with the Moores School of Music Collegium Musicum.
