Architecture Center Houston and the Houston Public Library are pleased to announce the beginning of the second season of Authors in Architecture. Author George D. Hopkins, Jr(pictured) will present Creating Your Architectural Style, Thursday, February 18. Join us for the 6pm presentation and discussion at the Downtown Houston Public Library (500 McKinney) and then a book signing and reception at Architecture Center Houston (315 Capitol) at 7pm.

George D. Hopkins, Jr. is a nationally renowned architect widely acclaimed for his professional accomplishments. Founder and chairman of the Hopkins Company, an architectural firm, Hopkins specializes in the design of upscale residences and urban redevelopment planning. His innovative and unique architectural style, which ranges from historically preservative to creatively contemporary, has been frequently featured in books and national magazines since his career began in 1970.

Licensed to practice in twenty-five states, Hopkins has received nearly two dozen awards, such as the Best Homes in Mississippi award and the President’s Commission on White House Fellowships. As a long-time Louisiana resident, Hopkins completed his M.S. and Ph.D. at Tulane University in 1974 and 1982, respectively.

Hopkins’s book, Creating Your Architectural Style is described as “the complete illustrated guide to building your dream home” and guides readers through the entire construction process, complete with beautiful photography and inspiring interior layouts. A narrative description of the design process, a synopsis of architectural styles, and a pictorial glossary of architectural terms are among the features of this expansive volume.

Debuting in January 2009, Authors in Architecture is a collaboration between the Houston Public Library Downtown and the ArCH. Our aim is to create a dialogue between these two downtown cultural centers and their patrons. This monthly series is free and open to the public.
