Cool Brains! Inprint Readings for Young People presents an afternoon with bestselling author Gary Paulsen. Sunday, April 18 at 3pm in Pershing Middle School Auditorium, 3838 Blue Bonnet at Stella Link.  Paulsen will make a lively presentation about his work, followed by a book sale and signing, where audience members can meet the author.

Gary Paulsen, considered one of the most important writers of young people today, has more than 26 million books in print and is the author of more than 175 books and 200 articles and short stories for children and adults. A master storyteller, Paulsen is a three time Newberry Honor Book winner for the novels Hatchet, Dogsong, and The Winter Room. School Library Journal included his book Hatchet in their list of “One Hundred Books That Shaped the Century.” Paulsen’s other major works include Mudshark, which is on the Bluebonnet Master List this year, and the fan favorite Lawn Boy. His books frequently appear on the best books lists of the American Library Association and the New York Times hails Paulsen as “one of the best-loved writers alive.”

Paulsen’s latest novel Woods Runner is a vivid and harrowing story about a teenage boy in the midst of the Revolutionary War. Paulsen says, “I wrote Woods Runner because I wanted the Revolutionary War to be seen in its reality. I wanted to dispute the mythic, clean, even antiseptic qualities in many histories, because war is never, not ever, clean.” In late March he will publish Lawn Boy Returns, the sequel to Lawn Boy.

Paulsen and his wife, Ruth Wright Paulsen, an artist who has illustrated several of his books, divide their time between homes in Alaska and New Mexico and a boat in the Pacific.
