Add Review/Comment
Talento Bilingüe de Houston (TBH) is honored to bring back Bocón (February 4-7 and 11-14), a theatre production featuring TBH’s acting students . Bocón is written by Lisa Loomer and directed by Angeles Romero, TBH’s Artist-in-Residence. This production was first introduced to schools September 2009 as part of TBH’s Hispanic Heritage Month programming. Due to the great success and high demand of this production TBH has brought back Bocón to its stage.
Bocón tells the story of Miguel, a twelve year-old boy, who flees a repressive military regime in Central America for the United States. A natural storyteller and irrepressible "Bocón"/ "Big Mouth," Miguel loses his voice when his parents are taken and begins a metaphorical journey north. Along the way he teams up with an unusual traveling companion, La Llorona, the legendary "Weeping Woman" of Mexican mythology. Through their magical friendship, Miguel finds his voice and the courage to cross the border to a new life.
Miguel's story is relevant to immigrants across the world and to anyone who is learning to find his or her own voice.
Audiences will have the opportunity to experience, observe and learn fables and mysticisms from Latin America. This production will have performances February 4-6 & 11-13 at 8:00 PM as well as February 7& 14 at 3:00 pm. All tickets will be $10. Please take note that this performance is also available for private showing on a case by case request.
