    Join GHASP/MfCA as we celebrate the 2nd Annual Earth Day Houston Festival, 5K & Green Expo. Earth Day Houston once again will take place at Discovery Green on Saturday, April 3, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The festivities kick off with the Earth Day Houston 5K at 8 a.m. followed by a day-long celebration with family entertainment, environmental education, the NEW Green Expo and much more.

    The free one-day celebration will focus on the merits of mindful, sustainable living while educating and encouraging Houstonians to preserve, conserve and enhance our city and the Earth. Developed by Galveston-Houston Association for Smog Prevention and Mothers for Clean Air, Earth Day Houston Festival, 5K & Green Expo is a collaboration with the City of Houston, Discovery Green and various green non-profit agencies.

    The Earth Day Houston 5K began 5 years ago to raise awareness on air pollution issues in the Houston area. The 2010 event will once again begin and end at Discovery Green in downtown Houston. The race will be a chip-timed run on a flat, fast loop course certified by USATF. There will also be a 5K Walk and a Kids Run.The 5th Annual Earth Day Houston 5K is scheduled for 8 a.m. Saturday, April 3, 2010 at Discovery Green (1500 McKinney, 77010) in front of downtown's George R. Brown Convention Center.

    What starts as a Party on the Pavement sets the pace for Houston,s Party for Our Planet. The 5K will kick off Earth Day Houston, a free day-long festival and Green Expo taking place at Discovery Green as part of the nation's 40th anniversary celebration of Earth Day.

    The Earth Day Houston 5K competition begins at 8 a.m. followed by the 5K walkers. At 9 a.m. the kids hit the streets for the Kids'  K (for children ages 11 and under). Participants may register online at www.earthdayhouston.org  or pick up a race brochure at Green Bank, Diet Gourmet, Memorial Park, and local running stores.

    AIA’s Gulf Coast Green Consumer Exhibition is moving to Earth Day Houston at Discovery Green in 2010. This exhibition offers you the outstanding opportunity to present your products to the rapidly growing green market at Houston’s largest free celebration of the nation’s 40th anniversary of Earth Day in 2010.

    Earth Day Houston is the city’s official Party for Our Planet held on Saturday, April 3, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The festivities kick off with the Earth Day Houston 5K at 8 a.m. followed by a day of family entertainment, environmental education, and now the Green Expo!

    The FREE one-day celebration will focus on the merits of mindful, sustainable living while educating and encouraging Houstonians to preserve, conserve and enhance our city and the Earth. Developed by the Galveston-Houston Association for Smog Prevention (GHASP) and Mothers for Clean Air, Earth Day Houston is a collaboration with the City of Houston, Discovery Green, and various green nonprofit agencies.

    Planned activities include the Earth Zone featuring interactive environmental awareness activities highlighting land, air, water, and renewable energy, a Farmer’s Market in support of locally-grown produce, and The Kids Energy Zone and stage. In addition, recycled art projects, green living seminars and demos, plus live musical entertainment round out the day.

    GHASP/MfCA have also taken a pledge with FitPlanet to make Earth Day &Green Expo a green event.

        Tickets:

        Entry fees paid by March 26 are $20 for adults and $10 for Kids' K participants (ages 11 and under); fees paid March 27 to April 2 are $25 for adults and $10 for kids; and race day entry fees are $30 for adults and $10 for kids.

         

        5K Team fees are $15 per person if paid by March 26, $18 if paid by April 2 and $23 on race day.

         

        Race day registration begins at 6:45 a.m.

        The festival and Green expo is free and open to the public.
