    McGonigel's Mucky Duck presents Notorious

NOTORIOUS: THE DUO - AS A TRIO - AS A QUARTET

“Eden MacAdam-Somer is a remarkable musician. Violinist, fiddler (there’s a difference), clogger, and vocalist, she bowed, plucked, and danced up a storm, Unger contributing harmony, rhythm, musical ambiance and style. And style there was – in abundance...MacAdam-Somer has mastered it and Unger hung on for the ride. Heartrending vocals poured through All Night Long and a Jewish wedding song. Singing and fiddling at the same time is her specialty, but her rendition of a Vaughan-Williams piece for soprano and violin was truly extraordinary.” – Michael Huebner, Birmingham News

    LARRY UNGER - guitar/banjo: www.larryunger.net

Eden and larryLauded as "sparkling" and "exhilarating” Notorious musicians Eden MacAdam-Somer and Larry Unger present a thrilling musical experience in genres that span many continents. With Eden on fiddle and vocals and Larry on guitar and banjo, their music lights up the hall with rhythm and sonority. Their performances are always new and exciting, featuring traditional American, Celtic, and Eastern-European tunes and songs, swing, blues, classical music and the group’s original compositions. Notorious has been a featured ensemble at such festivals as Falcon Ridge, Wheatland, Festival of American Fiddle Tunes, Eastbourne International Festival, the Savannah Folk Festival, Pinewoods, and the Augusta Music Festival. Notorious has also performed at the Kennedy Center of Washington D.C., on the Evening Under the Stars Concert Series at Southshore Conservatory of Hingham, Massachusetts, and for the Multi-educational Cultural Center for the Arts of Houston, Texas, and frequently dedicates time to performances and educational programs in schools. The band has also toured extensively, across the entire East and West coasts of the United States, to Alaska, and England. In addition to solo concerts, Notorious frequently works with orchestral ensembles, performs for folk and swing dances, teaches workshops, and participates in musical film collaborations.

Eden MacAdam SomerAt home in the worlds of both classical and popular music, Eden MacAdam-Somer is one of the most exciting and versatile young violinists and singers performing today. She has been a featured soloist with symphony and chamber orchestras, jazz and swing bands, bluegrass, DAWG and American folk groups. Eden is also well-versed in the music of other cultures, including Irish music, Eastern-European music, and European music from the Medieval and Renaissance periods. She has been an artist at the Aspen and Beijing International Music festivals, soloist at Texas and Wimberly jazz festivals, performer at Texas and St. Louis Renaissance fairs, and has appeared on numerous recordings in folk, rock, jazz, and classical genres. She holds a BM and MM in music performance from the Moores School of Music (University of Houston) and the Shepherd School of Music (Rice University), respectively.

Larry Unger has been a full-time musician since 1984 and has presented a diverse range of musical performances across the United States, Europe, and Scandinavia. Titled “master guitarist” by Dirty Linen, Unger has played with many top contra dance bands and has accompanied such fiddlers as Judy Hyman, Matt Glaser, and Lissa Schneckenburger. Larry’s original waltzes and fiddle tunes have been played and recorded by musicians around the world and can also be heard in the Ken Burns documentary, Our National Parks. Initially studying blues guitar with Etta Baker and John Jackson and later taking up the banjo and bass, Unger has become one of the most sought-after rhythm players in the country. He has a great breadth of understanding of traditional music to complement his considerable technical proficiency and enjoys telling stories about the origins of his music and the people who taught him.

NOTORIOUS: THE TRIO - adding SAM BARTLETT
    mandolin/jaw harp: www.sambartlett.com

Sam BartlettMandolinist Sam Bartlett has been playing music since he was 9, beginning with ill-fated adventures with the jaw harp and drumsticks, and finally settling into the mandolin, tenor banjo, and still, indeed, the jaw harp. He plays with Notorious and the Monks, and occasionally with other contra dance bands around the country. Sam also recently signed a book deal with Workman Publishing and his Best of Stuntology book is now available in stores all across America. When he’s not on the road Sam is home with his family in Bloomington, Indiana, torturing them with banjo tunes and teaching his children new stunts.

NOTORIOUS: THE QUARTET - adding Mark Hellenberg
    percussion/banjo uke

Mark Hellenberg has been playing traditional music for over forty years, beginning as a drummer in his father’s bagpipe band in the early sixties. Hellenberg has been featured as a percussionist on over a two dozen recordings including two Green Linnet releases bythe Celtic ensemble, The House Band. In 2001, he appeared on stage with the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra and performed on their Grammy award winning Telarc release, Celtic Spectacular. He has also appeared on NPR’s All Things Considered with his band, The Sevens, and on Public Radio International’s Mountain Stage with his folk-rock band, Stella. He is currently a member of Notorious, the Hotpoint String Band, The Groovemongers, and The Sevens, and often works with other contra dance luminaries including Wild Asparagus. When not playing music, Mark works for Ohio University as a producer and public radio host at the WOUB Radio Network in Athens, Ohio.
