March 20, 2010

Hit the Road with Spacetaker Saturday, March 20, 2010. Spacetaker presents its 6th Annual Spacetaker Gala: APOCALYPTO on Saturday, March 20, 2010, 7-11pm at Winter Street Studios. A spectacular evening of Mad Max-inspired revelry, this year’s gala will honor founder David A. Brown and his eight years of dedicated service to Houston’s art community through Spacetaker.
Over 800 guests will join the festivities at Winter Street’s own Thunderdome for a decadent display of food, drink, music, dance, theatre and art.
Each year, Spacetaker's gala is equal parts arts showcase and fundraising endeavor. Over 30 performing artists will be showcased at Apocalypto, including: Divisi Strings' electronica-fused string ensemble When Sounds Collide, singer/songwriter Andrew Karnavas, DJ Drew, and the Americana favorite Robert Ellis and the Boys. Two modern dance groups -- Psophonia Dance Company and Freneticore -- will take the Main Stage, along with choreographer Amy Ell's new burlesque dance troupe, Gems of Vaultease. Also rounding out the entertainment is the up-and-coming improv comedy troupe Scatter! and live ice sculpting under the stars in the Rooftop Lounge by the notorious Reverend Butter.
Several visual artists were so inspired by the gala's Mad Max theme that they came forward with proposed contributions to the evening's festivities. Metal-smith Geoffrey Mann will fashion an 8-foot metal Thunderdome for the gala's VIP room.
Several local restaurants and businesses have joined in the effort, providing food and drink for Spacetaker's partygoers. Featured entities include: Block 7 Wine Company, Bowl Café, Frosted Betty Bakeshop, Little Bigs, Pappas Grill Steakhouse, Path of Tea, Ruggles Green, Strip House, Sushi Raku, Whole Foods Market, Bandol Wines, Dripping Springs Vodka, and Silver Eagle Distributors. VIP's will be treated to none other than Houston's own Top Chef Master, Monica Pope and her catering endeavor: Green Plum.
Adding to the evening's flavor is avant-garde fashion designer Richard Saenz, who will be previewing a new thematically-related collection at Apocalypto.
