MFAH Film Revivals: The Red Shoes
April 2-April 4, 2010
Add Review/Comment
The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston presents Film Revivals. Enjoy these classics from the history of world cinema. April 2-4, The Red Shoes. Restored 35mm print!
Inspired by the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale and considered the best ballet film ever made, The Red Shoes is one of the most famous collaborations from the producing-directing-writing team of Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger (Black Narcissus, The Tales of Hoffmann). Beloved by many, this lavish Technicolor film tells the story of the ill-fated romance between a prima ballerina (Moira Shearer) and a brilliant composer (Marius Goring) that ends tragically when the jealous ballet company´s Svengali-like director (Anton Walbrook) becomes involved.
This special engagement features the print that was recently restored by The Film Foundation.
"This film is music, it´s cinema as music…" — Martin Scorsese
