A Female Director for True West?  Pendulum Theatre’s Director tackles the testosterone Sam Shepard play True West, March 19 through April 10.

The wildly popular play, True West by Sam Shepard is getting a woman’s touch. This play about two brothers at the height of sibling rivalry was once closed by Shepard’s agent when a small theatre tried a production with an all-girl cast. Now, The Pendulum Theatre of Houston will do their own production at Midtown Art Center starting late March… as directed by a female.

“I approached Holly with this play about a year ago,” says Pendulum’s Managing Director Houston Hayes about Pendulum’s Artistic Director, Holly Vogt Wilkison. “She liked the play but was a bit hesitant to go forward, knowing how truthfully Shepard likes his plays to be depicted. She knew there had been issues in the past when a small company tried an all-female cast.” In the end Pendulum decided to go for it.

“I love a challenge,” Ms. Wilkison, the appointed director of the play states. “Plus, good material is good material. And I will stay as close to Mr. Shepard’s vision as I can… maybe a little heavier on the relationship side. I am a woman after all.”

Cast:

Houston Hayes as "Austin"
Michael P. Shukis as "Lee"
John CLingman as "Saul Kimmer"
Zona Meyer as "Mom"

Directed by: Holly Vogt Wilkison

Production dates run 4 weekends starting March 19. Tickets are $10. Show starts at 8 p.m.
