Virtuosi of Houston, the City¹s youth chamber orchestra, composed of young, gifted musicians, presents its Concerto Competition Concert on Monday, April 5, 2010 at 7:30 pm in Zilkha Hall in the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts.

The concert will feature the student winners from Virtuosi of Houston¹s annual Concerto Competition: cellist Dahwi Kim performing Tchaikovsky¹s Variations on a Rococo Theme and trumpeter Matthew Barker performing Hummel¹s Trumpet Concerto in E-Flat Major. The program will also include the first movement of Beethoven¹s Symphony No 3 in E-Flat Major 'Eroica,' Mozart¹s Overture to Don Giovanni and Beethoven¹s Congratulations Menuet.

Founding Artist Directors and Conductors Franz Anton Krager and Andrzej Grabiec will conduct.

Virtuosi of Houston, a non-profit performing arts organization, is a premier youth chamber orchestra celebrating its fourteenth season. The musicians, ages 11 to 18, are from the greater Houston area and are selected from annual auditions. Unlike most youth orchestras, the educational focus is on chamber music and the students benefit from the joint direction of two university professors. The limited size of 50 players in the orchestra requires the young artists to perform at an exemplary level.

Virtuosi of Houston¹s artistic directors and conductors, Franz Anton Krager and Andrzej Grabiec, are also faculty members with the University of Houston Moore School of Music.
