Aurora Picture Show presents The Striking Viking Story Pirates: Written by Kids, Performed by Adults. Saturday, May 1, at 4pm.  Location:  TBH Center, 333 S. Jensen Dr.

By showing children that their words are important, The Story Pirates have been blowing the minds of kids since 2003. They know every kid has a story to tell-- whether it's a world of flying cats or a rock opera about fuzzy aliens, the Story Pirates promote a love of creative writing by collecting words and ideas from children across the country and bringing their stories to life on stage and on film.

That's right-- the inspiration for every Story Pirates song, sketch or movie is an original story penned by a kid. Saturday they will present videos of kids’ stories that they have produced and will create new live stories on screen by calling upon audience members to help develop the characters, locations and storylines.

“Crazy entertaining” – “The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart Described as a mix between School House Rock and Monty Python, The Story Pirates know every kid has a story to tell-- whether it's a world where cats can fly or a rock opera about fuzzy alien Tickle Monsters.

Founded in 2003 to promote a love of creative writing, the Story Pirates have collected words and ideas from children across the country and brought their stories to life on stage and on film. That's right-- the inspiration for every Story Pirates song, sketch or movie is an original story penned by a kid. Saturday night they will present videos of kids’ stories that they have produced recently and be available afterwards to discuss their process and interactions with kids.

The mission of the Striking Viking Story Pirates is “to celebrate the words and ideas of young people and to create confident, literate students equipped with a variety of tools for written, verbal, and artistic self-expression.” Story Pirates’ original arts and literacy programs “improve the relevancy and effectiveness of classroom and extracurricular learning, create confident children who carry their ability to express themselves into adulthood, and build strong communities that celebrate the value of young voices from diverse backgrounds.”

Special thanks to Radio Disney Houston, Writers In the Schools, and Young Audiences of Houston for their support of this program.
