The Greater Houston Partnership presents the 2010 Houston Area Survey: Portrait of A City In Transition.  Dr. Stephen L. Klineberg (pictured) will present his annual report highlighting Houstonians' changing attitudes to striking trends in society.

In March 1982, he and his students initiated the annual Houston Area Survey, tracking the remarkable changes in the demographic patterns, life experiences, attitudes and beliefs of area residents during a period of remarkable change.  No other city in America has been the focus of a long-term longitudinal research program of this scope and none more clearly exemplifies the transformations that are radically refashioning the social and political landscape of urban America.

Stephen Klineberg is the co-director of Rice University’s new Institute for Urban Research, which will provide a permanent home for the annual Houston Area Survey. The survey, now in its 29th year, is the nation’s longest running study of any metropolitan area. A graduate of Haverford College with an M.A. from the University of Paris and a Ph.D. from Harvard University, Klineberg joined Rice’s sociology department in 1972 after teaching at Princeton University. He is the recipient of 10 major teaching awards at Rice, including the George R. Brown Certificate of Highest Merit, Rice’s lifetime award for superior teaching.
