Interested in creative atmospheres? Artists in residence at the Hardy/Nance Street Studios open their doors from 1-5 p.m. every Third Saturday of the month for a free opportunity to watch them paint, sculpt, sew, shoot photos and dream up their own creations in their eclectic environments.
The casual setting allows art aficionados, potential buyers and other artists the opportunity to discuss works in progress and perhaps witness a masterpiece in the making. This gallery-alternative event also offers a chance to buy affordable art directly from the artists.
On any given Third Saturday, you might witness a clothing photo shoot, a documentary screening, a silkscreening demonstration or a large-scale painting critique. Plenty of art -- paintings, photography, sculpture, garden art, textiles and artisan ware -- is on view in the hallways and inside the studios. Of the 30-plus artists in residence, usually 10-12 are available to participate. Many supply refreshments for patrons.
Plenty of street parking is available and the event is open to the public. The Hardy-Nance Studios have been an official site for FotoFest and included on Houston’s Art Crawl for the past two years. The 15,000 SF building, located in Houston’s historic warehouse district, is one of the better examples of a conversion to artist studios, with for-lease studio spaces from 120 to 1400 SF and a large gallery.
