Buchanan Gallery presents Gwendolyn Plunkett: Locating Beauty - Skin Deep & Deanna Wood: Palimpsest, two solo exhibitions featuring different applications of the encaustic process. April 17 through May 22.
Exploring encaustic with 2 new artists, a delightful exploration of encaustic, featuring two artists who have perfected this ancient technique and made it their own with compelling themes and imagery.
Gwendolyn Plunkett presents "Locating Beauty - Skin Deep" as part of her ongoing Ritual & Collections Series. These multi-layered artworks combine handmade Japanese and Thai papers with encaustic, oil bar and other media to create rich, organic surfaces with an intriguing sense of depth.
Deanna Wood's new exhibit, "Palimpsest," uses the wonderfully translucent nature of encaustic to explore the secrets we hide from everyone except ourselves, with rich colors and bold silhouettes that frequently contain bird imagery.
