Talento Bilingüe de Houston (TBH) has joined the Tornados Running Club’s Cinco de Mayo 5K Run to bring its first annual Flora & Fauna 1K Costume Contest. This year’s costume contest brings environmental awareness, in particular to Houston’s air quality.

Come join us in the 6th Annual Cinco de Mayo 5K to raise money that will benefit Neighborhood Centers, Inc. and the Tornados College Scholarship Fund. Thanks to our sponsors Watermill Express, Genesis BCS, and Talento Bilingue for helping us send a waterfall of support to these worthy causes! The postrace party will include LIVE ENTERTAINMENT, PINATAS, AWARDS, KID'S FINISHER MEDALS, DOOR PRIZES, and BREAKFAST TACOS.

During The Flora & Fauna 1K Costume Contest, kids (12 and under) and kids-at-heart (teens and adults) will be able to show off their favorite plant or animal inspired costume in a 1K costume contest which will take place at the Guadalupe Plaza, adjacent to TBH. Winners will be chosen based on costume popularity. Contest participants of all ages will parade three times around the Guadalupe Plaza showing off their costumes, while spectators will vote by placing stickers on their favorite costumes. The costume with the most stickers at the end wins first place. We will award two second places and two third places. (No live animals, please.)

Winners receive Pachamama "Mother Earth" awards:
    1st place valued at $200
    2nd place valued at $100
    3rd place valued at $50

TBH’s mission is to educate all by preserving, presenting and promoting Latino culture. For more information about TBH’s cultural programming visit, www.tbhcenter.org.

Planeta Verde Now (PVN), TBH’s Latino Green Initiative offers creative ways to heal and sustain the planet. PVN is devoted to linking the arts to local ecological concerns. Our objective is to empower our local Latino community to be Eco-Literate. In other words, to be able to read, interpret and compose our environment from a deep, conscious understanding of place and relationships.

The Tornados Running Club has a 22-year history of running excellence. While the club welcomes runners of every ethnicity, it is Houston’s only predominantly Latino running club. The Tornados Running Club is a member club of the Houston Area Road Runners Association (HARRA). It promotes health and wellness through its weekly training runs and periodic social events.
