Second Generation Dance Company presents Ascending, Friday, April 30 and Saturday, May 1 at Barnevelder Movement/Arts Complex.
In this mixed repertory concert the dancers will light up the stage with their fiery performances sending messages to every man, woman, and child about the character of dance. You will experience emotions from shy to strong, from docile to dangerous.
This evening’s performance will feature choreography by Lori Bujung, and Valery Handy . Ms Bujung will be premiering “ My Favorite Songs” featuring the music of Kate Nash, and Vanessa Carlton and infusing the evening with jazz in “Sweet Bill” featuring the music of Bill Withers. She will also be restaging “Angelitos Negros” featuring the music of Sweet Honey in the Rock and telling the story of women escaping slavery via the Underground Railroad from Texas to Mexico. This ballet tells of the emotions of the women who transition from being chattel to being invisible.
The evening introduce the talents of: Felicia Woodard, Valery Handy, Lydia Cain, and Autumn Rosemond. Ms Handy will present “Fusion of Four” a raucous dance sure to wake you up!
