Houston Family Arts Center (HFAC), recipient of the 2009 Nickelodeon Parents’ Picks Award for “Houston’s Best Theater for Kids,” announces its summer line-up of children’s shows. These two musicals and one comedy will entertain children of all ages.

    Abracadabra Aladdin! - musical
    Directed by Vicki Wiese

This fairy tale adaptation is full of adventurous fun and engaging music. Aladdin’s mother and sister are trying to get him to stop tricking everybody. Then one day, Aladdin meets Princess Jasmine and vows to marry her. He’s visited, however, by evil Jammal and his wicked sister. The greedy siblings know that only Aladdin can enter a secret cave which houses a mystical lamp. Fooling the two and taking the lamp for himself, Aladdin wins the love of the princess! But Jammal kidnaps Jasmine and takes the lamp.

To save Jasmine, Aladdin must regain possession of the lamp.

You’ll meet not one, but three genies, the whimpering Ali Bubba and the haughty sultan’s wife.

    Performances are June 23-26 at 11AM & 2 PM.

    Kung Fu Kitty - Comedy
    Directed by Ilich Guardiola

Everybody is kung fu fighting like cats and dogs in this hilarious, action-packed slapstick comedy. Fur (and puns) fly when feisty kitten Princess escapes the clutches of the sinister, catnapping Ting Tang and his hysterical henchcats. With the help of the punchy pooches, Princess faces her fears and finds inner strength to defeat (and declaw) her adversary. Performances are July 21-24 at 11AM & 2 PM.

    Hansel and Gretel - musical
    Directed by Joshua Clark

This is a sweet and charming musical adaptation of a favorite fairy tale. Sent into the woods, Hansel and Gretel meet up with a number of peculiar characters. A fiery troll guards his little wooden bridge. Even more, an articulate owl, a forest sprite and two hobgoblins are in the service of an evil (but extremely funny) witch who lives in a candy-coated little cottage. Everyone will cheer Gretel as she outwits the crone and sets free all the children who have been turned into gingerbread cookies! Performances are August 11-14 at 11AM & 2 PM.
