What does it mean to live a life of pleasure? For many people, the word "epicurean" connotes hedonistic indulgence in the finest (and most expensive) things of life. However, the ancient philosopher Epicurus meant something quite different when he encouraged people to live a life of pleasure. In this lecture, we will discuss his views on living a life of pleasure and may discover, in the process, that this is exactly the kind of lifestyle for which we've been searching.

Jill Carroll, PhD, is an adjunct associate professor in religious studies at Rice University where she also directed the Boniuk Center for Religious Tolerance for five years. She writes a featured blog for the Houston Chronicle called "Talking Tolerance" and is the creator and founding director of the Amazing Faiths Project (www.amazingfaithsproject.org). She is the author of The Savage Side: Reclaiming Violent Models of God and A Dialogue of Civilizations: Gulen's Islamic Ideals and Humanistic Discourse.
