Baytown Little Theater presents My Fair Lady, by Alan J. Lerner and Frederick Loewe. The production is produced in conjunction with Lee College at the Lee College Performing Arts Center, and will open on Friday, July 30, 2010 with subsequent performances on 7/31, 8/1, 8/6, 8/7, and 8/8.
“This show has everything you want in a musical” says Wadzinski. “A classic story, great music, great visual impact through sets and costumes, and timeless characters. Most theater historians regard “My Fair Lady” as the best example of American musical theater.”
Set in London in the early 1900’s, “My Fair Lady” is based on George Bernard Shaw’s classic “Pygmalion”. Henry Higgins, a professor of linguistics and grammar, discovers Eliza Doolittle, a common London flower girl outside an opera house in London. He makes a bet with his friend Colonel Pickering that within six months, simply by teaching Eliza to speak properly, he can pass Eliza off as a duchess at a royal ball. In the end, he wins his bet, but discovers that his experiment in teaching has altered his life irreparably.
The show features many timeless musical classics, including “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly”, “With a Little Bit of Luck”, “I Could Have Danced All Night”, “The Street Where You Live”, and “Get Me To The Church On Time.”
