Houston Friends of Chamber Music closes its  2010-2011 season, presenting the Emerson String Quartet, Thursday, April 28, 2011.

The Emerson String Quartet stands alone in the history of string quartets with an unparalleled list of achievements over three decades: thirty acclaimed recordings with Deutsche Grammophon, nine Grammy Awards, the coveted Avery Fisher Prize and performing cycles of the complete Beethoven, Bartok, Mendelssohn, and Shostakovish string quartets. After more than 33 years, the Emerson continues to play with the same benchmark integrity, energy and commitment that is has demonstrated since it was formed in 1976.

In celebration of the Houston Friends of Chamber Music's 50th Anniversary season, the Emerson will perform the world premier of a composition by Rice University's Pierre Jalbert commissioned by HFCM for the concert.

A perfect ending to the first fifty years you won't want to miss!

    "America's greatest quartet." -Time Magazine

"The Emerson has the traditional string-quartet virtues; each player is a strongly characterized individual, but the ensemble is temperamentally as well as sonically in balance. The four minds play upon each other, and upon the work, in perfect harmony; the players are in tune in all senses of the phrase." -The New Yorker

"The Emerson gives us playing of exceptional technical accomplishment and an unusually wide expressive range. They continually offer new insights into some endlessly enthralling music. Do hear them." -Gramophone
