The Moores School of Music at the University of Houston and Houston Chamber Choir present  A Renaissance Feast, Tuesday, September 21, at 7:30pm at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, 1111 St. Joseph Pkwy, Houston, TX, 77002 . Featuring Members of the Moores School of Music Concert Chorale with HOUSTON CHAMBER CHOIR,* Robert Simpson,* conductor.

With soaring lines and harmonic purity, the music of the Renaissance has long been a favorite of Houston audiences. Houston Chamber Choir celebrates the opening of its 15th Anniversary Season, A Bridge Across Time, by returning to the glorious Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart with a choral program that celebrates such expressive masterpieces as Gregorio Allegri’s Miserere and Thomas Tallis’s Spem in alium, a 40-part motet.

A highlight of the evening will be the first public performance of the Co-Cathedral’s newly installed Martin Pasi Opus XIX organ. Guest artists from the University of Houston under the direction of Dr. Betsy Cook Weber will join HCC Artistic Director Robert Simpson and the Houston Chamber Choir in this unforgettable, one-evening-only performance.

“The Chamber Choir and I always look forward to performing Renaissance music in the Co-Cathedral,” said Robert Simpson, Artistic Director of Houston Chamber Choir. “Its inspiring architecture and exceptional acoustics create the perfect setting in which to experience this transcendent music. We are particularly excited that our audience will be the first to hear the magnificent 4-manual organ that has just been completed.”

Robert Simpson, Founder and Artistic Director of the internationally renowned Houston Chamber Choir, was honored by Chorus America with the Michael Korn Founders Award for Development of the Professional Choral Art at its national conference in June. Throughout his illustrious career, Simpson has worked tirelessly to cultivate America’s passion for choral music. The programming of the 15th Anniversary Season, A Bridge Across Time, captures the vocal clarity and grace of the Houston Chamber Choir and showcases its brilliance. As noted by Gramophone magazine, the world’s authority on classical recordings, Houston Chamber Choir’s recent release, Ravishingly Russian, is highlighted by “exquisite harmonic illustration and enriched by an outpouring of graceful melody and restrained sentiment.”

The Houston Chamber Choir is a professional ensemble dedicated to increasing the awareness, appreciation and esteem of choral music and musicians through performance, outreach and education. Join Houston Chamber Choir as they celebrate 15 years of choral excellence with elegant interpretations of audience favorites, fascinating collaborations and even Broadway show tunes. Wrap your senses in the luscious tones of gorgeous choral music sung in acoustically superb spaces throughout Houston.
