    The Moores School of Music at the University of Houston presents ManChoir Concert 2010, Saturday, October 2, at 6:00pm in Moores Opera House. Free!

    Featuring the University of Houston Moores School of Music University Men's Chorus, with a chorus of male high school students from the greater Houston area* Kelly J. Turner, director Jonathan Reed,* conductor/clinician (Michigan State University).

    Dr. Kelly J. Turner (pictured) is Assistant Professor of Music at the Moores School, where he is conductor of the Concert Women's Chorus and University Men's Chorus. In addition, his responsibilities include teaching voice class and serving as chorus master for some of the Moores School's opera productions. He holds the Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in Choral Conducting from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Auburn University.

    While pursuing graduate work at UNC Greensboro, Dr. Turner was conductor of the Women's Glee Club and Women's Choir, and taught Italian and English diction, undergraduate conducting, and class voice. Before coming to the University of Houston, Dr. Turner taught high school choral music in the Wake County Public School System of North Carolina, where he conducted five ensembles and taught advanced placement music theory. His ensembles received consistent superior ratings at festival. As a church musician, he has served churches in Alabama, Florida, and North Carolina.

    Dr. Turner is a published arranger of choral music, and he has served as a clinician, conductor, and adjudicator in North Carolina and Texas. His research interests include the acoustic balance between chorus and orchestra during combined performances, diction for singers, and music technology. He is author of a unique computer application called IPANow! that creates instant phonetic transcriptions for vocalists and choral conductors. Dr. Turner is a member of the American Choral Directors’ Association, Texas Music Educators' Association, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and Pi Kappa Lambda.
