The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston presents MFAH Gallery Conversations: Wild and Woolly Western Tales, Saturday, August 14, 2:30 p.m.  Featuring Scott Hill Bumgardner, Cowboy Poet and Storyteller.  Meet in the Audrey Jones Beck Building Lobby.

In the spirit of Charlie Russell—who brought first-hand knowledge of the life in the American West to his art—the MFAH features local cowboy storyteller and poet Scott Hill Bumgardner spinning tales in the exhibition The Masterworks of Charles M. Russell at the August Gallery Conversation.

A retired Houston police officer and rancher, Bumgardner began writing poetry after a horse-induced injury in 1991. Since then, he has served as president of the Houston Storytellers Guild and has received numerous awards, including the 2005 Louisiana State Champion Liar´s Crown.

Gallery Conversations are open to the public and free with general museum admission. Museum members always receive free admission. Campstools and MFAH listening devices that amplify the presenter´s voice will be provided on a first come, first-served basis. MFAH listening devices are available for loan with a valid photo ID, such as a driver´s license.

The Masterworks of Charles M. Russell: A Retrospective of Paintings and Sculpture is organized collaboratively by the Denver Art Museum and Gilcrease Museum. Significant support for the Exhibition is provided by the Helen K. and Arthur E. Johnson Foundation. Additional support is provided by an indemnity from the Federal Council on the Arts and the Humanities, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas A. Petrie, and Fine Arts Foundation.
