The Jung Center of Houston presents Power and Choice in Circumstances Beyond Our Control. Analyst and writer Gretchen Heyer examines the nuances of personal responsibility, and the value of inner work, in this lecture. Thursday, October 21, 7:30 - 9 pm.

What are the limits and possibilities of personal choice in life-altering circumstances? We are all embedded in social, economic, political and ecological matrices beyond our control. In the face of this, focusing on our inner dynamics can feel inadequate, as if we are avoiding social responsibility. While at times we may indeed be selfish, such judgments often depend on perspective.

This presentation will use excepts from Tsotsi, (pictured) the 2005 award winning South African film, to explore the power of choice.

Gretchen Heyer, MDiv, PhD, is a Jungian analyst in private practice in Houston, a senior training analyst with the Inter-Regional Society of Jungian analysts, and membership chair for the Houston-Galveston Psychoanalytic Society. Her essays and book reviews have appeared in various literary and academic journals.
