Rienzi Center for European Decorative Arts, MFAH, presents Early Music Southwest at Rienzi: Thinking Outside the Bachs.

Early Music Southwest, an international collaboration of baroque music professionals, presents a series of music recitals hosted by Rienzi throughout the year. Early Music Southwest specializes in the performance of chamber music of the 17th and 18th centuries on original instruments, perfectly complementing the unique historical environment of Rienzi´s collection.

Since 2002, Early Music Southwest founders Fred and Christina Edelen and their musical colleagues have showcased the ideas and cultures behind this rich musical tradition.

The recital is followed by a reception featuring wine and light hors d´oeuvres.

Reservations are required. Admission is $20 per person.

Opened to the public in 1999, Rienzi is the center for European decorative arts at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Comprising a remarkable art collection, a house, and gardens, Rienzi was given to the museum by arts patrons Carroll Sterling Masterson and Harris Masterson III.

This handsome residence, named for Rienzi Johnston, Mr. Masterson's grandfather, is situated on 4.4 acres in Homewood Addition, surrounded by Houston's River Oaks neighborhood. The structure was designed in 1952 by John F. Staub, the same architect who designed Bayou Bend.
