Rice University - Rice Cinema,  the Rice University Dance Program, and the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston present The Rice Dance Film Festival, Friday & Saturday, September 17 & 18.

The Rice Dance Film Festival celebrates the intersection of contemporary dance and the moving image with a screening series of short and feature length films. This event is presented in partnership with the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston and the Rice University Dance Program.

Friday September 17th Screening: An evening of short films curated by Rosie Trump, Assistant Director of Dance Programs at Rice University.

Saturday September 18th Screening: Goshogaoka, (pictured) 1998 by director Sharron Lockhart, courtesy of the Contemporary Art Museum of Houston. Goshogaoka is the feature film début from Los Angeles still photographer Sharon Lockhart. Filmed at a junior high school gymnasium in Tokyo, Lockhart’s non-narrative documentary observes the regimental training rituals of a girls’ basketball team through a stationary camera placed at a non-interfering distance.

This event is presented in conjunction with the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston exhibition Dance With Camera, on view August 6 through October 17.
