Houston Family Arts Center (HFAC) continues its 6th season of bringing family-friendly entertainment to Houston with the off-Broadway hit musical, Dames at Sea, opening at 8 PM on Friday, September 24 on the HFAC Garza Mainstage.
Dames at Sea is a fun, tap-dancing musical written as a spoof of the 1930’s Hollywood musicals. An energetic all-American girl arrives in the Big Apple with nothing but a pair of tap shoes in her suitcase. She falls in love with a sailor (who just happens to be a songwriter), and then saves a Broadway show when the star can't go on. Music! Curtain! Lights! It's time for Broadway magic! Love blooms, taps fly, and confusion reigns as the show leads to a hilarious climax.
"Broadway Baby," "Good Times are Here to Stay," "Dames at Sea," and "Let's Have a Simple Wedding" are among the hit songs of this fun musical.
Dames at Sea (book and lyrics by George Haimsohn and Robin Miller, music by Jim Wise) will tap dance its way into your heart. Dames at Sea premiered off-Broadway at the Bouwerie Lane Theatre in 1968 and launched now Broadway veteran, Bernadette Peters into stardom.
Dames at Sea is directed by Elaine Edstrom and stars local Houston talent Lendsey Kersey as Ruby, John Grimmett as Dick, and Pamela M. Moore as Mona Kent.
Rounding out the cast are John Carmona, Kalin Coates, Lauren Dolk, Richard Hahn, Brett Hurt, Brittany McLeod, Doug Pfaffenberger and Brianna Stiglet.
The artistic team includes Kara Koller (musical direction), Debra Schultz (choreographer), Michael Stepanik (scenic design), Amber Stepanik (costume design), Tracy Clayton (sound design), Lisa Garza (lighting design), Brendis O’Sullivan (stage manager) and Karen Clayton (Assistant Director)
Performance Location: Garza Mainstage 10760 Grant Road, Houston, TX 77070.
