Children of Hangzhou Debut Event
October 2, 2010
Children's Museum of Houston debuts a new cultural exhibit, Children of Hangzhou, with a ribbon cutting ceremony and with a day of traditional Chinese performances, Saturday, October 2. Sponsored by KMPG, Devon Energy and the Williams Stamps Farish Fund With promotional sponsorship by Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Houston.
You’re invited to go on a whirlwind adventure to the Far East through the lives of four Hangzhou children. With China becoming the second largest economy in the world, Children of Hangzhou bridges the gap of understanding between our two genuine cultures. Join us as we celebrate the exhibit’s opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony and a day of traditional dances, musical performances, martial arts, Chinese painting and calligraphy!
Ribbon Cutting Ceremony with Chinese Consulate: Listen to the Chinese Consulate’s take on the exhibit. Plus, learn about a boy from Hangzhou who lives right here in Houston! Ribbon cutting followed by traditional folkdance. Begins at 10:15 a.m.
Spotlight Performances: Stick around for a Chinese cultural experience with local kids! Enjoy a Chinese folkdance by students from the J&H Dance school, followed by the musical artistry of the Changlu Wu Music School and the Li Qi Music School. Then, watch an adrenaline rushed martial arts performance by the Shi Xing Hao School, culminating with the poise and finesse of the Wan Xin Sheng School’s Chinese painting and calligraphy demonstration. Two shows: 11 a.m.—Noon; 1—2 p.m.
