INTREPID FRINGE: William Shakespeare's KING LEAR
September 23-October 9, 2010
Intrepid Fringe opens Shakespeare's KING LEAR on September 23 at 8p. The play runs Thursday-Friday-Saturday through October 9 in Houston's "coolest, new venue" (Houston Press), called Obsidian Art Space, in the Heights.
The action of KING LEAR rips through all veils of civility as the characters reduce their humanity and all the constructs thereof to utter nothingness. The minimalist, quasi-apocalyptic setting matches the harshness of the plot, accompanied by very industrial lighting and music which includes tracks by Nine Inch Nails.
Considered by many as Shakespeare's greatest tragedy, KING LEAR tears at the fabric of human compassion, one heart a time.
Children 12 and under may attend but only with a parent, and it is not recommended to them due to violence and themes.
