Halloween Spooktacular
October 31, 2010
Children's Museum of Houston invites you to the ultimate Halloween party for kids and safe trick-or-treating. Join CMH for “the largest Halloween gathering” world record attempt at the Halloween Spooktacular, Halloween Day October—31. Partially sponsored by Imperial Sugar.
You’re invited to take on a journey of tricks and treats! Wander through the Happy Halloween Mansion’s hocus pocus hallways in search of goblin goodies and terrifying trinkets during the Halloween Spooktacular on Oct. 31. Dance to the fangtastic sounds of a live DJ and don’t forget to come dressed in costume to help us set a world record!
Open until 8 p.m. for safe trick-or-treating.
Special Events:
WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT: Join us on Halloween Day as we shoot for the world’s largest Halloween gathering and attempt to get the most people dressed in costume in one place. The current record is 394 people. Help us beat this!
HALLOWEEN SPOOKTACULAR WITH “LIVE” DJ: Let the ghoul times roll as you dance to hauntingly hip tunes. Be sure to come dressed in your most boo-tiful or frightfully freaky costume!
SAFE AND FRIENDLY TRICK-OR-TREATING: Wander through the mansion’s howlific hallways in search of goodies. Enjoy safe trick-or-treating until 8 p.m.
BEWARE OF THESE FANGTASTIC ACTIVITIES:
- Trick or Treat Bags: Head over to Junktion to design a trick or treat bag to collect goblin goodies and terrifying trinkets.
- Do You Feel the Chill: Come join us at Science Station for spooky experiments that will both thrill and chill.
- Spooky Animation: Design your own spooky Halloween animation stories through the techniques of stop motion, zoetrope and flipbooks at the Inventors’ Workshop.
- Franken Critters: These creepy creations are based on the technology which makes cell phones jitter! Use real electric motors to bring your creature to life. (Take home kit fee = $3)
- Spooky Landscapes: Create a chilling picture of fall at night or a creepy haunted house.
- Halloween Bead Pattern Mania: Create your own Halloween bracelet using beads and maniacal math patterns.
- Halloween Starburst Graph: Learn how to use Halloween candy for fun math activities.
- Social Media Monsters: Calling all pumpkins, superheroes and witches! Come to the museum in costume then post a photo on our Facebook page for a chance to win a membership! No costume, no problem! Swing by the face painting station and follow a Halloween face painting activity. Then, post that photo to Facebook. Every other day we will randomly select a winner.
- Sneaky Detectives: Can you solve the mystery? Each day we will have a secret special trick-or-treat station. The only way to find it is through clues announced daily on Facebook and Twitter. Think you have what it takes to win the grand prize? Find the secret station, take a pic and post it to our Facebook wall. A winner will be randomly selected for a grand prize mystery which will be announced during our Halloween Spooktacular on Oct. 31.
- Spooktastic Moms and Dads: Families all dressed in costume or parents dressed in costume will receive 20 percent off at Fiddle Sticks Gifts. Must mention promo to receive discount. Offer cannot be combined with other discounts.
