Gallery 1724 has two solo shows opening in one night! Isaac Powell, Smitty Regula, both opening Saturday, September 25, 8-10pm. Both Isaac Powell's and Smitty Regula's exhibitions have been extended until Saturday, November 20, 2010!

Kentucky-based Isaac Powell’s artwork emerges out of the vitality that happens through the problem solving involved in his being physically handicapped and the artistic challenges he imposes on himself. The flora in his work directly references the body, its appendages and digits. By addressing his own anxieties through the imagery of plant cuttings and graftings, he has developed his own vocabulary for confronting both awkwardness and beauty.

Smitty Regula is following in the footsteps of 1950’s visionary Joseph Buttle, founder of “Shrine, Co.” Regula, known around Houston for his Hen-a-Tron (a.k.a. chicken truck) has designed a line of shrines “for any icon, belief, or denomination of religion.” These replicas make “worship easier and more efficient.” Amen!
