Society for the Performing Arts (SPA), bringing the world’s best to Houston, presents The 5 Browns, 8:00 pm, Saturday, November 6, 2010, in Jones Hall.  Part of the SPA CenterPoint Energy Music Series.

“One family, five pianos and 50 fingers add up to the biggest classical music sensation in years,” said New York Post of The 5 Browns, adding, “When these kids do Rachmaninoff, they’ll make you forget about Marshall amps.”

A youthful quintet of brothers and sisters, each a Juilliard-trained virtuoso concert pianist, The 5 Browns swept the classical world in 2005 with the release of their self-titled first recording for RCA Red Seal. That release landed them at the top of the weekly Billboard charts and, at the end of the year, as one of the Top Classical Artists of 2005. With Browns in Blue, released in 2007, The 5 Browns had already delivered on their dream of waking up classical music and introducing it to the widest, largest and most excited audience they can find.

The 5 Browns’ latest album and PBS television special focus on timeless music from the cinema. Flawless in precision and steeped in passion, the Browns stun critics and shatter the preconceptions of those who think classical music inscrutable or intimidating. Needless to say, they are a force to be reckoned with.

For their upcoming SPA concert, they’ve planned an unbeatable program: alongside Rachmaninov, Reich, Bach, Brahms, Cowell, and Liszt, The 5 Browns are playing memorable music from the movies! And some of our favorites, too: Elmer Bernstein’s To Kill a Mockingbird: “Main Title,” Bernard Herrmann’s Hitchcock movie themes, Dario Marianelli’s Atonement, and John Williams’s Star Wars.
