The First Ward Civic Council presents the 10-10-10 First Bash, 2pm-5pm Sunday, October 10 at Winter Street Studios.

The Bash showcases performances by Texas Johnny Boy (pictured) and MECA; Puppet Pizzazz; a silent auction of the work of local artists such as Soloman Kane, Hebe Brooks, Lynet Mc Donald, Ron Gordon and others; samplings from area restaurants; and an exciting raffle with many prizes donated by area businesses. Tickets to this fine event are $10 at the door.

Each year, the First Ward Civic Council strives to advance its mission of building community, preserving history, and improving the quality of life in Houston’s historic First Ward. Ongoing activities in support of this mission include:

• Promoting Neighborhood Identity – signage, arts district designation, maintaining a website and publishing newsletters
• Community Garden / Beautification – expanding the garden, maintaining esplanades and planting tress
• Community Events – Holiday Bash, Neighborhood Night Out, Socials and other events
• Neighborhood Advocacy – representation at SN22, working with state and local governmental agencies on issues that impact the neighborhood
• Historical Preservation – historical designation, prevailing lot size, and setbacks
