On Thursday, November 11, 2010, the City of Houston will show support of our Armed Forces as we celebrate the 12th Annual Houston Salutes American Heroes Veteran’s Day Commemoration and Parade. Mayor Annise D. Parker has added a new element to this year’s program by partnering with the City’s Office of Veterans’ Affairs to host the first AT&T Veterans Job Fair.

The annual “Houston Salutes American Heroes” festivities will kick off on the steps of City Hall at 10 a.m. with a ceremony featuring guest speakers. Following the remarks, there will be a moment of silence during the 11th hour to commemorate the signing of the WWI Armistice. The AT&T Veterans Job Fair will open in front of City Hall at 11 a.m., and employers will remain on site with job opportunities for Veterans until 2 p.m. The American Heroes parade will follow at 11:30 a.m. and will travel down Smith Street between Texas and Lamar.

Each year, hundreds of veteran’s organizations, military personnel, historic associations, universities and schools create patriotic and inspiring entries. We look forward to your joining us as we pay tribute to our American Heroes.

Free parking will be available from 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. in the Theatre District Parking courtesy of Convention and Entertainment Facilities Department.
