Co-presented with the Houston Cinema Arts Society, and in conjunction with the 2010 Cinema Arts Festival Houston, Aurora is pleased to welcome the Green cousins to Houston. How can two such talented filmmakers be in the same family? Films by Sam Green, Brent Green, and live music by the Quavers* with special guests Brendan Canty (Fugazi) and John Michael Swartz will be presented over three festival nights. Gravity Was Everywhere Back Then with Brent Green and Donna K., accompanied by the Quavers with Brendan Canty and John Michael Swartz is presented Friday at 9:45pm and Saturday at 8:00pm.

Leonard and Mary meet in a car crash. They fall instantly in love, and live happily ever after ... until Mary gets sick. Desperate to save her, Leonard decides that if he builds a house for Mary, it will heal her. Inspired by the real actions of the eccentric Leonard Wood, filmmaker Brent Green brings to life this love story like no other in his first feature-length film.

Shot entirely on the full-scale town he built in his backyard, Green combines animation, stop-motion and live-action in an ethereal opus to lovers and tinkerers everywhere. Cosponsored with DiverseWorks ArtSpace, which is exhibiting sculptures and props designed by Green in a November exhibition.

Brent Green is a self-taught animator and artist who lives and works in a barn in Cressona, PA. His work has been regular featured at Sundance, and received acclaim at the Hammer Museum, Wexner Center for the Arts, Walker Art Center, and Getty Museum of Art. Gravity premiered at the IFC Center in New York in early May 2010; other screenings and exhibitions in 2010 include MoMA, New York; SITE Santa Fe Biennial; Diverse Works, Houston; and Arizona State University Art Museum. Brent Green is a 2005 Creative Capital grant recipient.

Green's work has been written about in The New York Times, ArtNews, Artforum, Village Voice, Art in America, Filmmaker Magazine, Animation World Magazine, The New Yorker and Bomb Magazine. Green's artwork is represented by the Andrew Edlin Gallery in New York City.

Brooklyn band, The Quavers are T. Griffin, Catherine McRae and Dennis Cronin. They coax a luminous sound out of decayed samplers, walkmans, vibraphonette, footpedal loopers, tape echo violin and homespun harmonies. In addition to their CD Lit By Your Phone they've collaborated on dozens of film scores, plays, live soundtracks and music projects with artists as diverse as Patti Smith, Anne Bogart, Jem Cohen, Vic Chesnutt, Michael Almereyda, Tom Verlaine, DJ/Rupture and members of godspeed you! black emperor.
