The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston presents a MFAH Friday-Saturday Lecture: Through the Looking Glass: American Art by the Book, at the Caroline Wiess Law Building. Presented by Dr. Emily Ballew Neff, Curator of American Painting and Sculpture, MFAH.

A walk through the M FAH galleries of American Art tells a story of affirmation and discovery, conflict and challenge. Though the galleries offer a richly nuanced experience through paintings and sculpture, the aesthetic currents that pulse throughout the American Art collection suddenly come into sharper focus when signature works in the galleries are juxtaposed with light-sensitive works on paper and textiles which cannot be on longterm view.

Dr. Emily Ballew Neff shows how the museum´s new publication, American Art & Philanthropy, offers startling new perspectives on the distinctive voices of American artists represented in the museum´s collection from the colonial era to World War II.

Lectures are free with museum admission and open to the public. A reception to meet the speaker follows each program.
