    Antiques 101 at Bayou Bend:  Adult Evening Seminars (Wednesdays)

    Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens, MFAH, presents Antiques 101 at Bayou Bend: Adult Evening Seminars, Wednesday Evenings in October 6, 13, 20, 27, 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.

    This four-week series is perfect for enthusiasts or for those casually interested in history or antiques. Each session includes a specially-focused tour of the house and a hands-on experience and/or guest speaker.

    This fall´s program topics...

    Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens, MFAH, presents Antiques 101 at Bayou Bend: Adult Evening Seminars, Wednesday Evenings in October 6, 13, 20, 27, 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.

    This four-week series is perfect for enthusiasts or for those casually interested in history or antiques. Each session includes a specially-focused tour of the house and a hands-on experience and/or guest speaker.

    This fall´s program topics were chosen to highlight the "material" in American material culture. Participants will take advantage of Bayou Bend´s new and renovated spaces, including the Kitty King Powell Library and Study Center at the Kilroy Visitor and Education Center and a newly created metals study room. Participants may subscribe to the Antiques 101 History Camp for the entire series or purchase tickets to individual sessions.

    Program Dates and Themes
    All programs take place Wednesday evenings in October

    October 6 — Paint
    Guest speaker: Patrick Palmer, the Glassell School of Art; tour focuses on the portraits and painted furniture in Bayou Bend´s collection

    October 13 — Metal
    Guest Speaker: Gunsmith Dennis Heckathorne; tour focuses on Bayou Bend´s metals collection and the new metals study area

    October 20 — Paper
    Guest Speaker: librarian Margaret Culbertson, Kitty King Powell Library and Study Center; tour of Bayou Bend´s newly installed wallpapers

    October 27 — Ceramics
    Guest speaker: Marcia Erickson, potter; the ceramic collection is highlighted, tour the newly updated ceramics study area

    Tickets:

    Participants may subscribe to the entire Antiques 101 series for $175 ($150 for MFAH members), or attend individual sessions priced at $60 ($50 for MFAH members).

    Reservations are required; please call Lavinia Ignat, Visitor Services Manager, at 713.639.7758 to reserve your place.


    Times:

    Programs begin at 6:00 p.m. and end by 9:00 p.m. Program participants are encouraged to arrive ten minutes early to check in.


    Location -  Check in at the Lora Jean Kilroy Visitor and Education Center, 6003 Memorial Drive, 77007. Each program begins with a house tour, for which guests meet in the cottage next to the house.
