    The Menil Collection presents the Rice/Menil Biennial Lecture Series.  The 2010-2011 theme is The Risible Visual: Humor & Art. The Rice/Menil Biennial Lecture Series, a collaborative program of The Menil Collection and the Department of Art History at Rice University, was established in 2005.

    The Menil Collection presents the Rice/Menil Biennial Lecture Series.  The 2010-2011 theme is The Risible Visual: Humor & Art. The Rice/Menil Biennial Lecture Series, a collaborative program of The Menil Collection and the Department of Art History at Rice University, was established in 2005.

    In 1980, John R Clarke joined the art history faculty at The University of Texas at Austin, where his teaching, research, and publications focus on ancient Roman art, art-historical methodology, and contemporary art. He is the author of seven books including Looking at Laughter: Humor, Power, and Transgression in Roman Visual Culture, 100 B.C.-A.D. 250 (2007).
