Several Dancers Core presents their Fall 2010 Fieldwork Showcase, a Mixed Discipline Showcase of Original Work. Featuring new works and works-in-progress. Choreographers, Musicians, Composers, Writers, Poets, Playwrights, Performance Artists, Filmmakers, Visual Artists, and Artists who merge the Disciplines.

CORE (formerly Several Dancers Core) presents the Fall 2010 session of Fieldwork, a creative workshop series that brings artists together to show their developing works and exchange feedback on a regular basis. Fieldwork sessions are designed for artists working in various disciplines including Dance, Theater, and Writing.

The Fieldwork method originated in New York over 25 years ago, and CORE has been offering Fieldwork workshops for the Houston arts community since 1992. The workshops will provide support, structure, and community to help artists immerse themselves fully in their creative work. The feedback method reveals how each piece is perceived by others and provides detailed information that helps artists hone their vision. By focusing on what's happening in the work and how those choices shape the work, Fieldwork supports autonomy and authorship of each artist.

The facilitator for Fall 2010 will be Lydia Hance, dancer with Suchu Dance and formerly with Ad Deum Dance Company, teacher with CORE's Dynamic X-Change Healing Arts program and director of the new company, Frame Dance Productions, a company integrating dance and technology.

The session begins Wednesday, September 8 and continues bi-weekly through November 3. The informal showcase will be held on Sunday, November 7.

The Fall Fieldwork Showcase is the culmination of the ten-week Fieldwork workshop in which artists in a variety of mediums grow their work. Each week an artist shows work-in-progress and receives facilitated feedback from their peers. After the Showcase, the audience is invited to informally meet with the artists and hear about their processes of “growing the work” as well as discuss the works seen that evening. Works on the showcase are eclectic, as artists participating in the workshop work in any artistic discipline, from poetry to dance to baton twirling to mixed-media.

See live performances by local artists for less than it costs to go to a movie!
