    About Elliot Perry
A Memphis native and graduate of Treadwell High, NBA star and former University of Memphis Tiger player Elliot Perry has accumulated a collection of works by a roster of distinguished 20th century African-American artists and younger black artists whose names read like a catalog of awards and prestigious international exhibitions. These include Kara Walker, Renee Cox, Radcliffe Bailey, Wangechi Mutu, Robert Pruitt, Michael Ray Charles, Whitfield Lovell, Xaviera Simmons, Lorna Simpson, Glenn Ligon and a host of others.

Perry has been busy lately with trying to make a difference in his community. He has formed the “SOCKS Fund” (Supporting Our Community and KidS), to provide financial support to those organizations that are making a difference in the Memphis area and relating to children.

Perry’s motto is: “I have always wanted to be a positive and central figure in my community, to use my platform to influence and help those who are in need”.

    About HMAAC
The mission of HMAAC is to collect, conserve, explore, interpret, and exhibit the material and intellectual culture of Africans and African Americans in Houston, the state of Texas, the southwest and the African Diaspora for current and future generations. In fulfilling its mission, HMAAC seeks to invite and engage visitors of every race and background and to inspire children of all ages through discovery-driven learning. HMAAC is to be a museum for all people. While our focus is the African American experience, our story in Texas informs and includes not only people of color, but people of all colors. As a result, the stories and exhibitions that HMAAC will bring to Texas are about the indisputable fact that while our experience is a unique one, it has been impacted by numerous races, genders and ethnicities.

HMAAC’s new home at 4807 Caroline is targeted to be renovated and opened to the public in 2011. For more information, visit our website at www.hmaac.org  or call us at 713.353.1578.
