The 38th Annual Jewish Book & Arts Fair promises to be spectacular with prominent and emerging writers in literature, philosophy, arts, theology, history and current events. Touted as one of the largest Jewish book fairs in the nation, this stellar annual event is scheduled for October 31- November 14, 2010 at the Jewish Community Center of Houston.

The Book & Arts Fair is designed to educate, enlighten and enrich the Houston community with quality programs including conversations with the authors, a community-wide book read, a large bookstore, a family day concert featuring The Macaroons, films and more. Author signings follow all presentations.

The Book & Arts Fair “Opening Night” has been declared a free event for the whole community. Everyone is invited to come hear notable author and Newsweek Senior Editor, Jonathan Alter, The Promise: President Obama, Year One.

“The JCC Book Fair has a history of bringing to Houston interesting and engaging authors, writing on a spectrum of historical and current affairs,” said Dan C. Steiner, JCC President. “JCC Patron of the Arts members and ticket holders have enjoyed the wide variety of presentations over the years, and we wanted to invite the greater community to join us in experiencing this annual event. We are pleased to make this year’s opening night event available to all without charge.”

Among the authors and presenters at this year’s Fair are Martin Fletcher, Walking Israel: A Personal Search for the Soul of a Nation; Jeffrey Zaslow, The Girls from Ames; Tom Segev, Simon Wiesenthal The Life and Legends; Joel Hoffman, And God Said: How Translations Conceal the Bible’s Original Meaning; Dr. Erica Brown, Confronting Scandal: How Jews Can Respond When Jews Do Bad Things; and Sam Hoffman, Old Jews Telling Jokes.

    Also scheduled:

The 38th Annual Jewish Book & Arts Fair will feature Hometown Heroes, on Monday, November 8, 2010 at 5:30 p.m. The program will showcase the works of eleven local authors. Each author has published a book in the past year and will be present at the event to sign books and chat with patrons.

The 38th Annual Jewish Book & Arts Fair announces the return of the Community Read. In a day and age where folks have easy, high-speed access to digital books, this event puts the focus back on the good old fashioned book club, encouraging people to read the same book and share the experience.  This year’s selection is By Fire, By Water by Mitchell James Kaplan. The author will appear November 14, 2010 at 4:30 p.m. at the 38th Annual Jewish Book & Arts Fair at the JCC Houston.
