DiverseWorks presents Brent Green: Gravity Was Everywhere Back Then. On view  November 5-December 9, 2010. Opening Reception: Friday, November 5, 2010.

Pennsylvania-based filmmaker Brent Green is coming to Houston for a multi-week residency that will culminate in a major video and sculpture installation which will serve as an unusual setting for workshops, performances, and interactive public events highlighting the artist’s unique approach to storytelling.

Combining stop-motion animation and live actors, the feature-length film Gravity Was Everywhere Back Then is based on the true story of Leonard Wood, an eccentric yet extremely driven man from Louisville, Kentucky, who built an elaborate house as a sort of healing machine he hoped would cure his terminally ill wife.

Using items left in the home and blueprints found on the property, Green reconstructed Leonard’s house to serve as the film’s set.

For the residency at DiverseWorks, Green will expand upon his retelling of Leonard’s life with the creation of new kinetic sculptures and animated shorts as well as the exhibition of the film.
